History
Hoshida Station opened on 1 July 1898 between Tsuda and Shijōnawate on the Kansai Railway, and passed to the national rail system when the Kansai Railway was nationalised in 1907. The station became part of the Katamachi Line in 1913. Freight handling ended in 1962 and parcel handling in 1970. In October 1979 the line between Nagao and Katamachi was double-tracked and elevated and the section received the first automatic ticket gates installed at JNR stations in the Kansai region. JR West took over in 1987, the "Gakkentoshi Line" nickname was added in 1988, and rapid services began stopping in 2002. Station numbering JR-H31 was applied in March 2018.

Notes
From 1941 to 1948 an Imperial Army siding ran east of the station to the Kōri Branch of the Osaka Arsenal; the alignment now survives as municipal roads in Katano and Hirakata.
