History

Itakano Station opened on 24 December 2006 as the northern terminus of the Osaka Municipal Subway Imazatosuji Line, with the station name formally fixed on 10 July that year. It became a station of the Osaka Metropolitan Rapid Electric Tramway (Osaka Metro) on 1 April 2018 when the municipal transport bureau was corporatised. The station is the northernmost subway station in Osaka City and on the Osaka Metro network, sitting at a higher latitude than Esaka, which is technically inside Suita City. The station has a single underground island platform with two tracks, fitted with platform screen doors. Long-discussed extensions to Shōjaku on the Hankyu Kyōto Line and Kishibe on the JR Kyoto Line remain unrealised.

Notes

Itakano is the northernmost subway station in Osaka — and on the entire Osaka Metro — sitting at a slightly higher latitude than Esaka, despite Esaka being inside Suita City rather than Osaka City.
