History

Kami-Shinjo Station opened on 16 January 1928 on the Shin-Keihan Railway, accompanying the extension from Awaji to what is now Takatsukishi. Corporate consolidation in 1930 made it part of Keihan Electric Railway, and the 1943 wartime merger transferred it to Keihanshin Kyuko (today's Hankyu). The line was renamed the Kyoto Main Line in 1949. To relieve heavy traffic at the Shimagashira level crossing on the busiest road through the Hankyu network, the station was relocated slightly toward Kyoto and elevated in November 1975. Station numbering (HK-64) followed on 21 December 2013. A further 3.3-kilometre elevation project south toward Sozenji is now scheduled to open in 2031 after repeated delays.
