History

Hamanomiya Station opened on 19 August 1923 with the inauguration of the Kobe-Himeji Electric Railway, in what is now Onoe-chō Kuchiri, Kakogawa, Hyōgo Prefecture. On 1 April 1927 the Kobe-Himeji Electric Railway was absorbed by Ujigawa Electric, and on 6 June 1933 Ujigawa’s railway operations were spun off to form Sanyo Electric Railway, which continues to operate the station today as stop SY 29 on the Sanyo Main Line. The station building was rebuilt in April 1969 and an in-station underpass was put into service at the same time. A crossover on the west side was removed around 1980. Barrier-free improvements were completed in April 2015, adding elevators at both ends of a new connecting bridge between the two side platforms, with co-funding from Hyōgo Prefecture.

Notes

A scene of Earth in episode 10 of the 2022–2023 anime Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury closely resembled the station and surrounding area, drawing fan attention and Japanese news coverage at the time.
