History

Mikage Station opened on 16 July 1920 with the inaugural section of the Hanshin Kyūkō Electric Railway Kobe Line. A short pocket track to the west of the station was completed in 1968 to support through-running with Sanyo Electric Railway trains between Sannomiya and Rokkō, an arrangement that ran until 15 February 1998 and now sees only out-of-service movements. The Great Hanshin earthquake of 17 January 1995 damaged the station and the line's restoration took some seven months. An underpass and a new north plaza were completed by February 2008 as the city's Yumiba Line was extended beneath the tracks, and station numbering HK-12 was introduced on 21 December 2013, followed by the relocation of the north ticket gate in March 2014.
