History

Iwaya Station opened on the Hanshin Electric Railway Main Line on 12 April 1905 in what is now Nada-ku, Kobe, Hyōgo Prefecture. The tracks immediately west of the station were placed in a trench in 1934, giving the platforms their present sunken configuration. Service was suspended after the Great Hanshin Earthquake of January 1995, and restoration of the wider Main Line took roughly seven months. Station numbering took effect on 21 December 2013, assigning Iwaya the designation HS-30. The station provides access to the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art and the Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution.
