History
Osaka-Umeda Station opened on 21 December 1906 as Umeda Station, extending Hanshin's terminus eastward from the earlier Deiribashi Station, in present-day Kita Ward, Ōsaka. The station was moved and placed underground on 21 March 1939. From 20 March 2009 the start of through service to Kintetsu Nara via the Hanshin Namba Line allowed certain commuter passes to be used across operators. The station name was changed from Umeda to Osaka-Umeda on 1 October 2019 to make its role as Osaka's main terminus clearer for overseas visitors. A nine-year renovation, begun on 3 March 2015, widened platforms, installed platform screen doors, and added new escalators and elevators across all four platforms; the works were completed on 16 March 2024.

Near the south exit outside the ticket gates, a juice stand named Umeda Mixed Juice, established in November 1969, sells about 1,500 cups of its signature drink each day and is widely regarded as a station landmark.
