History

Shin-Fukushima Station opened on 8 March 1997 in Fukushima-ku, Osaka, as part of the West Japan Railway Company JR Tōzai Line linking Amagasaki and Kyobashi. The underground station has an island platform serving two tracks at basement level two, with provision for points toward Kyobashi prepared for future expansion. The provisional working name was simply "Fukushima Station," matching the adjacent Osaka Loop Line stop, but it was renamed in May 1996 to avoid confusion. ICOCA support arrived in November 2003, and station numbering JR-H45 followed in March 2018. The station became a contracted operation under JR West Transport Service from December 2020.
