History

Ishikiri Station opened on 30 April 1914 with the Osaka Electric Tramway's section between Uehommachi (now Ōsaka-Uehommachi) and Nara (now Kintetsu Nara). The operator passed to Kansai Kyūkō in 1941 and then to Kintetsu when that company was formed in 1944. The station, in Higashiōsaka, sits at the Osaka end of the Nara Line ascent over Mount Ikoma; gradients beyond it toward Hyōtanyama exceed 33 per mil. On 23 July 1964 it was relocated to the cleared trace of the old Washio Tunnel as part of the project that built the new and wider Shin-Ikoma Tunnel; a permanent station opened on 26 December 1964 with up and down passing tracks. Express service was added on 18 March 1986 and PiTaPa support began on 1 April 2007.

Notes

Ishikiri replaced the Washio Tunnel in 1964; on the Ikoma side of the new Shin-Ikoma Tunnel, the former Kuzaesaka Station between Ishikiri and Ikoma was closed at the same time and has never been replaced.
