History

Ōkurayama Station opened on 17 June 1983 on the Kobe Municipal Subway Seishin-Yamate Line, initially serving as the line's terminus. It became an intermediate station on 18 June 1985 when the line was extended onward to Shin-Kobe. A rapid service began on 9 July 1993, with Ōkurayama designated as a stop the trains passed through. The station was damaged in the Great Hanshin earthquake of 17 January 1995 and reopened on 16 February of that year; the rapid service that had been suspended after the quake was formally discontinued on 21 July 1995. The single underground island platform sits at basement two, and the line still retains a crossover west of the station from its earlier terminus configuration.

Notes

From 2007 to 2015 Minatogawa Shrine held naming rights for the station and the secondary name "Minatogawa Jinja-mae" was displayed on signage; a sponsor-funded sub-name continued in different form until the contract lapsed at the end of fiscal 2018.
