History

Takashima Station opened on 14 March 1985 as a passenger halt on the San'yō Main Line in what is now Naka-ku, Okayama. The two side platforms sit at ground level next to the elevated Sanyō Shinkansen viaduct, 138.9 km from the line's origin at Kōbe. When Japanese National Railways was privatised on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West. The station also handles Akō Line services that run beyond the nominal terminus at Higashi-Okayama via San'yō Main Line tracks to reach Okayama Station, and a Midori no Madoguchi staffed window has been retained.
