History
Awaza Station opened on 31 October 1964 as a station on Line 4 (now the Chūō Line) when the Bentenchō to temporary Hommachi extension was completed. On 16 April 1969 it became a transfer station when Line 5 (now the Sennichimae Line) opened between Noda-Hanshin and Sakuragawa. Platform-edge doors were installed on the Sennichimae Line in November 2014 and on the Chūō Line in May 2024. The station passed to Osaka Metro on 1 April 2018. Both lines use opposed side platforms; an inter-line connecting track lets Sennichimae Line stock reach Morinomiya Depot via the Chūō Line, and several Sennichimae Line services originate at Awaza in connection with this movement.
