History

Naka Futo Station opened on 5 February 1981 with the inauguration of Kobe New Transit's Port Island Line (Port Liner), sited on reclaimed Port Island in Chūō-ku, Kobe. Service was suspended after the Great Hanshin earthquake of 17 January 1995 and was restored in stages from 22 May through 31 July of that year. Track-switching works during the line's 2006 extension to Kobe Airport closed it temporarily in November 2004 and September 2005. In June 2015 the suffix "XEBEC HALL" was added to its signage as a secondary name referencing the nearby concert venue. The station has a single island platform and serves the single-track section of the loop, with northbound-only operation toward Sannomiya.

Notes

Although other Kobe stations spell the second character of "埠" (futō, wharf) with phonetic kana — because it is outside the common-use jōyō list — Naka Futo and adjacent Kita Futo retain the original kanji on their signage.
