History
Shimin Hiroba Station opened on 5 February 1981 with the inauguration of Kobe New Transit's Port Island Line (Port Liner), serving the convention complex on the man-made Port Island. It was closed by the Great Hanshin earthquake on 17 January 1995 and reopened in stages between May and July of that year. Service was suspended again on 20–21 November 2004 and 10–11 September 2005 to switch tracks ahead of the Kobe Airport extension; a new platform 1 opened on 22 November 2004 and the old platform was reactivated as platform 2 when the airport line opened on 2 February 2006. The "Convention Center" nickname was added on 1 July 2011.

Notes
Only the down platform has a turnout: the up platform has no signal apparatus and is technically classified as a stop rather than a full station despite the two-track island layout.
