History

Itayado opened on 15 March 1910 as a surface station of Hyōgo Electric Railway between Hyōgo and Suma. It passed to Ujigawa Electric in 1927 and then to Sanyo Electric Railway in 1933 when the rail division was spun off. The Kobe Municipal Subway Seishin-Yamate Line opened on 13 March 1977 with Itayado as its initial terminus, before extension towards Ōkurayama in 1983. The 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake damaged the surface station severely; service resumed in two stages in 1995 alongside the relocation of the Sanyo platforms underground.

Notes

Despite their adjacent geometry, the Sanyo and subway platforms share no in-paid-area interchange — riders must exit and re-enter through separate fare gates.
