History

JR-Shuntokumichi Station opened on 15 March 2008 alongside the conversion of the freight-only Jōtō Line into the passenger Osaka Higashi Line. Because that conversion involved double-tracking and elevating what had been a single-track freight route, construction was effectively new build. Provisional plans called the stop simply Shuntokumichi, but because Kintetsu Osaka Line's neighbouring Shuntokumichi Station already exists, the prefix JR was added and confirmed on 23 August 2007. The station shares an island platform laid out for eight-car trains and stands directly adjacent to the Kintetsu station, integrating Osaka Higashi Line passengers with Kintetsu Osaka Line travellers.

Notes

Despite being located in Higashiōsaka, JR-Shuntokumichi is included in the JR West "Osaka City Area" fare zone following the line's full opening in March 2019.
