History

Momodani Station opened on 28 May 1895 as Momoyama Station on the original Osaka Railway's Tennōji–Tamatsukuri extension. After a 1900 merger placed it on the Kansai Railway and a 1907 nationalisation moved it to Imperial Railways, the station was renamed Momodani on 1 March 1905 to avoid confusion with another Momoyama Station added through the Nara Railway merger. The route became the Jōtō Line in 1909 and was absorbed into the Osaka Loop Line on 25 April 1961. The station was elevated in 1932, and a north gate and the under-track Viera Momodani commercial complex opened on 31 August 2016.

Notes

Since 2015 the departure melody at Momodani has been Kawashima Eigo's hit "Sake to Namida to Otoko to Onna"; the singer once ran a live house in the immediate neighbourhood.
