History
Karumo Station opened on 7 July 2001 as part of the inaugural set of stops on the Kobe Municipal Subway Kaigan Line. Built underground in Nagata-ku at Hamazoetōri 5-chōme, the station is configured as a single island platform with two tracks. Its design theme is "new shitamachi, park street", drawing on the Mano neighbourhood's well-known resident-led urban-renewal movement. The Karumo crew depot is housed in the station, so some trains exchange crews here. In April 2011 a two-year promotional billboard reading "Mitsuboshi Belt Mae" was added below the station name and renewed annually until the contract expired on 31 March 2019.

Notes
Karumo houses the Kaigan Line's only crew depot, so some trains running through here are timed as crew-change stops.
