History
Obitoke Station opened on 11 May 1898 when Nara Railway extended its line between Kyōgoku (now Kyōbate) and Sakurai. Kansai Railway absorbed Nara Railway in February 1905, and the consolidated railway was nationalised in October 1907. The 1909 line-name reform placed the station on the newly defined Sakurai Line. Freight ended on 15 October 1970 and parcels on 1 February 1984; the station became unstaffed that October with the introduction of centralised traffic control. JR West took over on 1 April 1987 and ICOCA was accepted from 1 March 2005. The Sakurai Line gained the nickname "Manyō Mahoroba Line" on 13 March 2010, and the original 1898 building was registered as a Tangible Cultural Property on 29 June 2022.
