History
Esaki Station opened on 25 March 1928 as the then-terminus of the Japan Government Railways San'in Main Line when the line was extended from Iinoura. Through service further west to Utagō began on 24 February 1933. Freight operations ended on 1 March 1979. The station passed to JR West with the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. From 28 July 2013 to 10 August 2014 the station was out of operation while the line, which had been heavily damaged by torrential rain, was rebuilt. The station today consists of two opposed side platforms connected by a footbridge and is unstaffed; in fiscal 2020 it averaged 33 passengers daily.
