History

Sanyo-Tarumi Station opened on 12 April 1917 as Tarumi Station on what was then the Hyogo Electric Railway extension between Shioya (today's Sanyo-Shioya) and the original Akashi terminus. Following the line's transfer through Ujigawa Electric and then to Sanyo Electric Railway in 1933, the station was renamed Dentetsu Tarumi on 20 November 1943. The platforms were elevated on 11 August 1967, and the present name Sanyo-Tarumi was adopted on 7 April 1991. Service was briefly suspended after the January 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake and an east entrance was added on 20 January 2003. The station sits immediately north of JR West's Tarumi Station, allowing transfer between the two operators.

Notes

Although Sanyo-Tarumi Station and JR West's Tarumi Station sit side by side and share a name root, their elevation, history, and operators are different — Sanyo opened in 1917, JR's predecessor in 1888.
