History

Tarumi Station opened on 1 July 1888 as a stop on the San'yō Railway in what is now Tarumi Ward of Kobe. The line was nationalised in 1906 and became part of the Japanese Government Railways' San'yō Main Line. The station passed to JR West at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 and is also marketed under the "JR Kobe Line" service brand. In March 2018 station numbering was introduced and Tarumi was assigned JR-A70. The elevated station has two opposed side platforms with two main tracks plus two bypass tracks for Special Rapid trains to overtake stoppers.
