History
Shin-Kami Station opened on 15 March 2008 as part of the partial inauguration of JR West's Osaka Higashi Line between Hanaten and Kyuhoji. The provisional working name during construction was Kami, but to avoid confusion with the existing Kami Station on the Yamatoji Line — just 150 metres away — the operator confirmed the definitive name Shin-Kami in a press release on 23 August 2007. Despite the short walking distance, the two stations are not treated as transfer points. Station numbering JR-F14 was introduced on 17 March 2018 when neighbouring Kizuri-Kaminokita opened. With the full Osaka Higashi Line opening on 16 March 2019, the station was incorporated into JR's Osaka City fare zone.

Notes
Shin-Kami sits on a sharp curve with steep cant, so trains stopping at the platform visibly tilt toward the inside of the bend.
