History
Tsurugaoka Station (JR-R23) is a JR West Hanwa Line station in Nishi-Tanabechō 2-chōme, Abeno-ku, Osaka. It opened on 22 May 1938 as the Hanwa-Tsurugaoka stop of the Hanwa Electric Railway between Minami-Tanabe and Rinnan-ji-mae (today Nagai). After successive transfers to Nankai Railway (December 1940), nationalisation (May 1944), and JR West with the 1987 privatisation, the elevated rebuild for the line was completed in stages — northbound platforms moved up on 16 October 2004 and southbound on 21 May 2006. Station numbering JR-R23 was introduced on 17 March 2018. The miyadeguchi green-window service ended on 30 November 2024.

Notes
Because Tsurugaoka is the nearest station to Nagai Park and Yanmar Stadium Nagai, the home ground of J-League side Cerezo Osaka, since 2009 the station's interior has been decorated with the club's logo, colours and player photographs at the club's expense.
