History
Shigisanshita Station opened on 16 May 1922 as Yamashita Station, a stop on the Shigi-Ikoma Electric Railroad just past its starting point at Ōji. The same day, the Higashi Shigi Cable Line opened from the station up to Mount Shigi to serve pilgrims to Chōgosonshi-ji temple. The line was extended further to Motosanjōguchi in 1926. The station was renamed Shigisanguchi in 1951 and to its present form, Shigisanshita, in 1956. Kintetsu absorbed the Shigi-Ikoma Electric Railway on 1 October 1964, and the cable line closed on 1 September 1983 as passengers shifted to the west-side cable route.
