History

Hōzenji Station, in Kashiwara, Osaka Prefecture, opened on 1 July 1927 when the Osaka Electric Tramway Yagi Line — the present Kintetsu Osaka Line — was extended between Onji and Takada (now Yamato-Takada). A 1941 merger transferred operations to the Kansai Express Railway, and the wartime consolidation of 1944 placed it under Kintetsu. PiTaPa service began on 1 April 2007, and on 20 March 2012 the station was added as a stop for the newly introduced sectional semi-express trains. Once staffed throughout the day, it became fully unstaffed on 10 November 2024, with a remote-monitoring system providing the station services.
