History
Kuguhara Station, in the town of Hayashima in Okayama Prefecture, opened on 20 March 1952 between Hayashima and Chayamachi on the Uno Line. It came under West Japan Railway Company on 1 April 1987 with the JNR privatisation. ICOCA support arrived on 1 September 2007, and on 25 January 2009 a second side platform was added when the long-delayed line doubling between Bitchū-Mishima and Chayamachi was finally completed. The station remains unstaffed with no station building; passengers walk straight onto the platforms, where simple ticket gates and waiting shelters provide service.

Notes
Until recently, the unstaffed station played the local hit "Seto no Hanayome" as an arrival chime; the standard JR West tune has since replaced it.
