History
Nagara Station opened on 20 August 1914 on the Sakurai Line between Tanbaichi (now Tenri) and Yanagimoto, branded as the Man-yō Mahoroba Line from 13 March 2010. Staffing was withdrawn under JNR's 1970 line-rationalisation, briefly reinstated in 1980, and then permanently removed when CTC operation began in October 1984. The station passed to JR West on 1 April 1987 at privatisation and accepted ICOCA from 1 March 2005 via simplified ticket gates. The original wooden station building was demolished in 2008 in favour of a waiting room and forecourt; the building was later transferred to the city of Tenri in 2019 and converted into a café and retail space.
