History
Shinkanaoka Station opened on 18 April 1987 when the Midōsuji Line was extended south from Abiko to Nakamozu, the southern end of the line. It serves as the focal point of Sakai's Kita Ward, with the ward office and several hospitals clustered nearby. With the privatisation of the Osaka Municipal Transportation Bureau on 1 April 2018 the station passed to Osaka Metro. Platform-screen doors entered service on 11 September 2021. A single underground island platform handles two tracks, and a connecting siding to Nakamozu Depot means a few peak-hour services start or terminate here. The station is the seat of a sub-district stationmaster overseeing Shinkanaoka and Kitahanada.
