History

Sekiya Station opened on 1 July 1927 on the Osaka Electric Tramway Yagi Line, the present Kintetsu Osaka Line. Following the merger of the Osaka Electric Tramway with the Sangu Express Electric Railway on 15 March 1941 it became part of the Kansai Express Railway, and the subsequent wartime merger with the Nankai Railway on 1 June 1944 brought it under the Kintetsu Railway. Between 2005 and 2015 the station carried the subsidiary name "Osaka Shoin Women's University," reflecting the proximity of the university's Sekiya campus; the secondary signage was removed in November 2015 after the campus closed earlier that year.

Notes

From 2005 to 2015 Sekiya carried the secondary name "Osaka Shoin Women's University," dropped after the nearby campus closed in March 2015.
