History

Akeno Station opened on 27 March 1930 as a stop on the Sangu Express Electric Railway's Matsusaka–Gekū-mae (now Miyamachi) section, in what is now Ise, Mie Prefecture. The 15 March 1941 merger of the Osaka Electric Tramway and the Sangu Express Railway placed the station on the new Kansai Express Railway's Yamada Line. The further wartime merger with the Nankai Electric Railway on 1 June 1944 transferred operation to Kintetsu. The station building was rebuilt below ground and the passing tracks were added on 14 March 1992, and PiTaPa support began on 1 April 2007.
