History

Shirakiyama Station opened on 1 January 1930 as Shirakiyamaguchi Station on the privately owned Geibi Railway, in present-day Asakita-ku, Hiroshima. The line was nationalised in July 1937 and the station took its present name on the same day. Service was suspended in August 1941 when gasoline-car operation was abolished, and the station only reappeared on 5 December 1963. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West. In July 2018 a bridge between Shirakiyama and Karuga over the Misasa River was washed away by heavy rain, severing the line toward Hiroshima until restoration in October 2019.

Notes

The platform sits on a curve, leaving trains leaning at a noticeable angle when stopped at the station.
