History

Nakafukawa Station opened on 8 December 1923 as a provisional halt on the Geibi Railway, and was upgraded to a full station on 20 September 1924. The line was nationalized on 1 July 1937. The station was downgraded from a contracted-agent stop to an unstaffed halt on 20 December 1971, and was placed within JNR's Hiroshima City special-fare zone on 1 May 1973. A truck collided with the express "Chidori 1" inside the station yard on 11 March 1977, derailing the train and killing the driver. The current simple station building dates from March 1978. The station passed to West Japan Railway Company at the 1 April 1987 privatization of JNR, became fully unstaffed in 2000, and began accepting ICOCA on 1 September 2007.
