History

Bingo-Akasaka Station opened on 5 June 1916 in present-day Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture, as Minokoshi Station (水越駅) on the Imperial Railway Department's San'yō Main Line, handling both passengers and freight. It was renamed Bingo-Akasaka on 1 January 1918. Freight operations were discontinued on 15 October 1960 and parcel handling on 1 February 1984. JR West took over at JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987, and ICOCA was accepted from 1 September 2007. A staffed Midori-no-Madoguchi ticket office opened on 7 February 2007 but closed again on 29 February 2020, after which the station became unstaffed. The layout combines one side platform and one island platform serving three numbered tracks plus an additional siding.
