History

Asuka Station opened on 31 March 1929 in present-day Asuka village, Nara Prefecture, as Tachibanadera Station on the Yoshino Railway between Okadera and Tsubosakayama. Successive mergers transferred the line to Osaka Electric Tramway in 1929, Kansai Express Railway in 1941, and Kintetsu on 1 June 1944. The passing loop was removed in August 1962 and reinstated in March 1996. The station was renamed Asuka on 1 August 1970 and promoted to a limited-express stop on 15 March 1990. PiTaPa support began on 1 April 2007, automatic ticket gates arrived in March 2010, and the station became unstaffed on 6 January 2021. Station number F44; the only Kintetsu station located in a village.
