History

Nishitakaya Station is a JR West stop on the San'yō Main Line in Higashihiroshima, Hiroshima Prefecture, 268.3 kilometres from Kobe. It opened on 13 July 1917 as Takaya Signal Stop and was elevated to a full station on 1 October 1926. Freight was discontinued on 21 March 1974 and parcel handling on 1 February 1984. The station passed to JR West at privatisation on 1 April 1987 and was converted to a business-commissioned station on 1 April 2019. Station numbering as JR-G11 began in September 2020. After the Midori no Madoguchi closed on 25 November 2022, a temporary building served until the new bridge-over-tracks building opened on 21 March 2025.

Notes

The official English spelling drops the hyphen as "Nishitakaya" rather than "Nishi-takaya" because the name reflects the historical district of Nishi-Takaya Village; the area also has no companion "Takaya" or "Higashi-Takaya" station nearby.
