History

Jike Station is a JR West stop on the San'yō Main Line in Higashihiroshima, Hiroshima Prefecture, 275.2 kilometres from Kobe, station number JR-G09. It opened on 4 March 2017 between Saijō and Hachihommatsu after a long campaign by local groups, originally organised around the Jike Station Construction Promotion Council founded in 1987. The basic agreement between JR West and the city of Higashihiroshima was signed on 4 August 2014, and the official name was announced on 8 July 2016. Construction costs of roughly 2.1 billion yen were borne entirely by the city. The station is unstaffed and managed from Kaitaichi, and rapid services such as the Commuter Liner and Shityliner run through without stopping.

Notes

The station's designated telegraphic abbreviation is "Chike" (チケ) rather than the obvious "Shike" (シケ), because the latter was already in use at Shigeyasu and Jōge stations on JR West.
