History
Tōkaichimachi Station is a Hiroden interchange tram stop in Naka-ku, Hiroshima, on the junction of the Hiroden Main Line and Yokogawa Line. It opened in 1917 as an intermediate stop on the new Yokogawa Line — at the time, the Main Line ran south of Tōkaichimachi via the Sakanchō (now Honkawachō) stop and reached Dobashi by a southern loop. Following the 1943 opening of the Eba Line from Dobashi, a short-cut link from Sakanchō through Tōkaichimachi to Dobashi was constructed and opened in 1944, after which the Main Line's southern loop was abolished and Tōkaichimachi (rather than Sakanchō) became the official Yokogawa / Main interchange.

Notes
When Tōkaichimachi opened in 1917 it was just an intermediate Yokogawa Line stop — the Main Line then ran south via Sakanchō (today Honkawachō). Only in 1944, with the wartime opening of a short-cut from Sakanchō through Tōkaichimachi to Dobashi, did this stop take over the Main Line junction role from Sakanchō.
