History

Hineno Station opened on 16 June 1930 as a stop on the privately operated Hanwa Electric Railway between Izumi-Fuchū and the old Hanwa Higashi-Wakayama (now Wakayama) terminus, and was upgraded from a halt to a full station on 3 March 1931. After Hanwa Electric was absorbed by Nankai Railway in 1940 and then nationalised in 1944, control passed to JR West at the 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways. The 6.9 km Kansai Airport Line opened from Hineno on 15 June 1994, immediately ahead of Kansai Airport's September 1994 inauguration, lifting the station to the line's junction role and bringing rapid and limited-express services that previously did not stop there.

Notes

The 0-km marker for the Kansai Airport Line is buried between the up and down tracks just south of the platform, near a level crossing on the station's Wakayama side.
