Station

Hijiyama-shita

比治山下

History

Hijiyama-shita opened on 27 December 1944 with the rest of the Hijiyama Line, taking its name from Mt. Hijiyama which rises immediately to the east. Service was suspended after the 6 August 1945 atomic bombing and the Hijiyama Line resumed service on 1 July 1948. A safety zone came into use on 30 September 1974, and an island platform was added at that time in place of the original at-grade boarding spot, with platforms long enough for 3- and 5-section articulated cars. Station number H5 was assigned in October 1996; on 3 August 2025 the Inari-machi - Hijiyama-shita section of the Hijiyama Line opened (under Ekimae-ohashi works) and the number was changed to H02. On 28 March 2026 the Circular Line began service and Hijiyama-shita became its terminus and a transfer stop.

Notes

Hijiyama-shita is the terminus of the Hijiyama Loop and sits at the foot of Mt. Hijiyama, just a few minutes' walk from the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, the Hiroshima City Manga Library, and Tamonin Temple; the river to the west is the Kyobashi-gawa and the east end of the surrounding area is reached through the Hijiyama Tunnel.
