History
Nagatoshi Station opened on 23 March 1924 as Shōmyōichi Station, the temporary terminus of the JGR Mine Line extended from Ofuku. The line pushed further to Nagato-Misumi on 3 November 1928. Branch lines to Kiwado (1928) and Senzaki (1930) opened from here. Most of the Mine Line beyond this station was reclassified into the San'in Main Line on 24 February 1933. The station was renamed Nagatoshi on 1 November 1962; freight ended on 1 January 1984; JR West took over at the 1 April 1987 privatisation. The Midori-no-Madoguchi closed on 31 January 2021.

Notes
The turntable that long stood beside the station, kept after steam working ended, was sold to Tobu Railway in 2016 and re-erected at Shimo-Imaichi for the SL Taiju steam excursions.
