History

Inokuchi opened on 6 April 1924, one of four intermediate stations added when the Hiroden Miyajima Line was extended from Kusatsu-machi to Hatsukaichi-machi; in its first decades the station name was written 井ノ口. It was renamed Inokuchi (井口) at an unrecorded date some time after 1965. The platforms were rebuilt in 1982 in a staggered layout so that both inbound and outbound trams stop only after passing through the level crossing between them — a measure introduced to stop passengers ducking through the crossing to catch their tram. The Miyajima-guchi-bound platform was extended and given a ramp and handrails for step-free access in 2011.

Notes

The upbound platform still retains a stub of the old high-floor section once used by the larger rolling stock that used to run on the Miyajima Line.
