Hatsukaichi-shiyakusho-mae Station

廿日市市役所前(平良)

History

Hatsukaichi-shiyakusho-mae (Hera) Station (M32) is on the Hiroden Miyajima Line in Shingu 1-chōme, Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima. It opened as Hera Station on 1 November 1984 between Hiroden-Hatsukaichi and Miyauchi, with limited road access and few connecting services at the time. After the new Hatsukaichi City Hall was completed in 1997, the city planned a station access road (Fureai-dōri); construction began in fiscal 2000, and from fiscal 2004 the station itself was rebuilt in parallel using a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism trunk-line-railway revitalisation subsidy — the first such subsidy applied to a rail-and-bus interchange rather than rail-to-rail. The reconstructed station opened on 28 January 2006, was renamed to Hatsukaichi-shiyakusho-mae (Hera) on 1 June 2006 when the road opened end-to-end, and gained Hiroden bus interchange the following day.

Notes

Hatsukaichi-shiyakusho-mae's 2004–06 rebuild was the first time the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's trunk-line-railway revitalisation subsidy — historically reserved for rail-to-rail interchanges — was applied to a rail-and-bus interchange; the redesign brought the down-direction platform onto the same level as the bus stop in the new station square.
