History
Yano Station opened on 27 December 1903 when the government-owned line between Kaitaichi and Kure entered service, in what is now Aki Ward, Hiroshima. The Sanyō Railway briefly leased operation in 1904–06, after which the route was renationalised and designated the Kure Line in 1909. Yano became part of the JR West network at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. A reinforced-concrete station building completed in 1978 was replaced by the current bridge-style structure, partially opened in 2008 and fully completed in 2009; the design draws on traditional machiya townhouses and on motifs from kamoji hairpieces, once a representative local industry. The station accepts ICOCA from September 2007.

Notes
Yano is the only Kure Line station located within Hiroshima city limits, and is also the southernmost station counted under JR's 'Hiroshima city' fare-zone system.
