History
Jigozen Station (M35) is on the Hiroden Miyajima Line in Jigozen 5-chōme, Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima. It opened on 15 July 1925 when Hiroshima Gas & Electric Tramway — Hiroden's predecessor — extended the Miyajima Line from Hatsukaichi-machi to Jigozen. Because westward extension towards Miyajima-guchi required reclamation of the coastline and fishing-rights compensation, Jigozen was the line's western terminus for a year. A temporary terminus, Jigozen-Shūten, sat 0.3 km further west to ease transfer to Hiroshima Gas & Electric's new ferry pier 1 km away. The line reached the pier itself at Shin-Miyajima Station on 15 July 1926, and Jigozen reverted to an intermediate stop. The platforms were relocated to their current staggered, post-crossing configuration in 1987 to stop passengers from cutting across the level crossing to board.

Notes
The 2- to 3-car Hiroden vehicles enter Jigozen only after passing the level crossing in either direction — a deliberately staggered, post-crossing platform layout adopted in April 1987 to stop boarding passengers from ducking under crossing barriers to reach the platform, with disused high-floor edges from the line's former mainline-style rolling stock still visible at each end.
