History
Akinagahama Station opened on 1 October 1994 between Tadanoumi and Ōnori on JR West's Kure Line, established primarily to serve the adjacent Takehara Thermal Power Station, to which it is connected by an overhead walkway. The Aki prefix distinguishes it from Nagahama Station on the Hokuriku Main Line. ICOCA support began on 1 September 2007, and from March 2006 to early 2011 the seasonal Setouchi Marine View rapid called here. The station has a single side platform served by a bi-directional track on the seaward side and is unattended. The station building, sitting on land owned by the Electric Power Development Company, is concrete with toilets and is reached by an external overpass.

The station building sits inside the grounds of the Takehara Thermal Power Station, reached via an overhead walkway that physically links the station to the plant.
