History

Kitacho Station opened on 1 November 1986 when Japanese National Railways added a temporary stop on the existing Kotoku Line, 6.7 km from the Takamatsu terminus. With JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987 it passed to JR Shikoku, which simultaneously upgraded the temporary stop to a full station and assigned it the code T24. The unstaffed station has a single side platform, no station building, and a small shelter with a ticket machine for waiting passengers. Only local services on the Kotoku Line call here; bicycle parking is provided near the entrance. The platform serves residents of central Takamatsu including students from nearby Takamatsu University and Takamatsu Municipal Kitakita Elementary School.

Notes

Kitacho was added late in the JNR era as a temporary stop and only became a permanent station the day after privatisation.
