History

Kaseda Station opened on 25 November 1900 with the Kiwa Railway's extension from Hashimoto to Kokawa. Operations transferred to the Kansai Railway in 1904 and to the national rail system in 1907, with the line renamed the Wakayama Line in 1909. Freight handling ended in 1971 and parcel handling in 1984. The 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways placed Kaseda under West Japan Railway Company. ICOCA card support arrived on 14 March 2020 — exit-only at the station gate — and on 1 April 2022 the station became unstaffed full-time.
