History

Yanaze Station opened on 1 October 1963 as an intermediate station on the Japanese National Railways' Gannichi Line when the route was extended from Kawayama to Nishikichō, in what is now Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The line passed to JR West on 1 April 1987 with JNR's privatisation and was then transferred to the third-sector Nishikigawa Railway on 25 July 1987, becoming part of the rebranded Nishikigawa Seiryū Line. The station is an unstaffed single-platform halt with a sheltered waiting area on the riverside; it has no station building, no toilet, and no vending machines, and its passenger numbers historically averaged just four boardings per day.
