History

Iwade Station opened on 10 October 1901 as Ōmiya Provisional Station on the Kiwa Railway, was promoted to a full station and renamed Ōmiya on 1 March 1902, and took its present name a month later on 1 April 1902. The Kiwa Railway was absorbed by the Kansai Railway in 1904, and that company in turn was nationalised in 1907, placing the station on what became the Wakayama Line in 1909. JR West has operated Iwade since the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The station serves the city of Iwade, Wakayama Prefecture, and is a stop for rapid services.
